Overview

As one of the best hands-on courses around, the A+ at Blue Screen IT will have students rebuilding PC's by the end of the week! With intense focus on PC building and then configuration of an O/S on the built PC, students will harnass a complete toolset in the PC technicians arsenal.

The topics are all hands on and yes you do all the installs etc, no projector group installs. Blue Screen IT ensures vendor-neutral training by exposing students to Microsoft DOS, Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7 as well as open source O/S Linux RedHat. By the end of this course students will be rebuilding computers from basic components to complete and installed systems!

Course Materials

All delegates are provided with highly recommended courseware. This includes the complete book on disk as well as many other resources like official technical drafts, white-papers and case studies. All students are furnished with materials like examination pads, pens, highlighters and other necessary stationary. Many other study aids are provided throughout the course ensuring each student a unique learning experience.

Certification - (Two exams count toward the A+ certification)

The A+ certification encompasses 4 different examinations, separated into 2 major categories, Essentials and Specialization Designations, 1 exam from each category must be taken in order to achieve the A+ certification;

1st Essential Examination: 220-701 (CompTIA A+ Essentials).

2nd Specialization Examination: 220-702 (IT Technician).

Prerequisites

Candidates should have basic PC skills, including basic PC navigation, mouse and keyboard skills and general understanding of the point and click mouse concept. No previous experience or certification is necessary as this is an entry level certification.

  • Recognition and discussion on basic PC components
  • Electricity, power, resistance, EMI and ESD
  • Analysis of PC & Laptop architecture and methodology
  • Sampling the working machine - analysis of interoperability of components
  • Systems breakdown including FRU's like motherboard, CPU, RAM, Hard disk, Power supply etc...
  • Rebuilding the PC - good practice, finalising the close and troubleshooting
  • Rebuild sessions from scratch to functioning PC
  • Intoduction to operating systems, applications, interfaces and programming
  • Installation and configuration of DOS, Win2000, WinXP, WinVista, Win7 and Linux!
  • Analysis of boot files, system files and extensions
  • Files systems including FAT, VFAT, FAT32 and NTFS
  • Peripheral installation, management and configuration including printers, scanners and others
  • Working with control panel and system tools for optimum machine configuration
  • System restore, MSINFO32, error reporting service and other serivces/ utils
  • Configuration of video adapters, monitors and display
  • Analysis and input of DOS commands
  • Configure/ manage disks and partitions as well as volumes using RAID systems
  • Disaster protection implementation using backups, restores and advanced recovery features
  • Configuration of ICS, ICF and Internet connectivity through dial-up, DSL, Cable and other media
  • TCP/IP utilities including ping, tracert, netstat, nbtstat, ipconfig and nslookup
  • Networking topologies, devices, media - including wireless, and connectivity solutions
  • Network Protocols, IP addressing (IPV4 + IPV6), connectivity, and Network Security concepts
  • Professionalism and Communcation techniques
