The revised CompTIA Linux+ exam covers approximately 90 percent of the problems that technicians, help desk staff, and system administrators routinely encounter today with commercial Linux applications from Novells, SUSE Linux, Red Hat, Mandrake, and TurboLinux. .
The CompTIA Linux+ certified individual will have the knowledge to implement security options on client systems, configure security-related files, and grasp common security practices. In addition, they will have the knowledge necessary to determine installation methods, select appropriate settings, protocols, and software packages. The individual has demonstrated proficiency in everyday management of Linux-based clients and basic management of server systems.

Prerequisites
A+ and Network+ certifications or equivalent knowledge recommended, but not required.
- Identify all system hardware required and check compatibility with Linux Distribution
- Determine appropriate method of installation based on environment
- Identify purpose of Linux machine based on predetermined customer requirements
- Determine what software and services should be installed and package management
- Partition according to pre-installation plan using fdisk and configure file systems
- Manage local storage devices and file systems, mounting and unmounting of filesystems.
- Manage file permissions and ownership from the command line
- Perform and verify backups and restores, access and write data to recordable media
- Manage runlevels and system initialization from the CLI and configuration files
- Perform remote management and NIS-related domain management
- Configure client network services and settings and configure basic server network services
- Given security requirements, implement appropriate encryption configuration
- Implement basic routing and subnetting
- Implement DNS and describe how it works
- Configure and troubleshoot the X Window system
- Configure security environment files
- Identify different Linux Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
- Identify security vulnerabilities within Linux services
- Create written procedures for installation, configuration, security and management
- Troubleshoot application errors using application logs
- Describe common hardware components and resources
- Diagnose hardware issues using Linux tools
