MCP - Windows 2000 Professional and Server installation and configuration

OVERVIEW
The route all begins with this foundation certification. No network service can run to high availability and reliability witout the correct configuration and installation of the relevant client and server operating systems. Once a complete overview of the operating system has been covered, installation using several methods - shortcut methods and more - as well as configuring and optimisation provide candidates with the 'on the floor' skills necessary for o/s installation.

COURSE MATERIALS
All delegates are provided with official Microsoft Press release courseware. This includes the complete book on disk as well as many other resources like official technical drafts, white-papers and case studies. All students are furnished with materials like examination pads, pens, highlighters and other necessary stationary. Many other study aids are provided throughout the course ensuring each student a unique learning experience...

COURSE DURATION
10 Days

CERTIFICATION - (Counts towards Windows 2000 MCSE/ MCSA)
Core Examination: 70-210 (Implementing, administrating and installing Microsoft Windows 2000 Profesional desktop operating system).
Elective Examination: 70-215 (Implementing, administrating and installing Microsoft Windows 2000 server operating systems).

PREREQUISITES
Candidates must have basic PC skills, including use of the internet and emails, software and hardware installations like Word, Excel, games, drivers etc and printers, cameras scanners etc. No thorough understanding of networking or systems concepts are needed but will be advantageous. Good computer literacy is a definate prerequisite.

COURSE TOPICS
· Network services, needs and general implementations
· Internetworking devices, connecting devices within the network and network structure design
· Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) model, DoD model and network theory
· Network topologies, IEEE standards and best practices
· Network cabling, speeds, maximum distances and other implementation
· Introduction to the Microsoft Windows platform
· Windows 2000 operating system, files and services
· Windows 2000 upgrade and installation using CD/DVD, network and automated tools like SYSPREP
· Connecting clients to networks/Internet and network services
· Local user account configuration, management and best practice
· Using Groups to manage access to resources with NTFS and share permissions
· Configure/ manage disks and partitions as well as volumes using RAID systems
· Controlling file systems in the network using DFS, quotas and other utilities
· Providing network access to file and print resources
· Printer installation, management and Configuration
· Configuring Windows 2000 for mobile computing
· Monitoring/ optimising performance within a Windows 2000 desktop and server
· Disaster protection implementation using backups, restores and advanced recovery features
· Implementing encryption and other security measures for baseline o/s security
· Installing and Configuring Terminal Services Remote Desktop Protocol
· Network Protocols, IP addressing and subnetting
