The Solaris Administration Part 2 course prepares system administrators to effectively supervise, configure, maintain and administer a Solaris system in a networked environment. The course is an extension on the Solaris Administration Part 1 and a lot of emphasis is placed on configuring a system to communicate and share system resources inside a network.

Prerequisites
Students should have attended the Solaris Administration Part 1 and have Solaris or Unix system industry experience.
- Describe network basics – TCP/IP introduction - Network files and Network commands.
- Configure system messaging and logging - Investigate logs, Logger utility, syslogd daemon and the /etc/syslog.conf file.
- Introduction to Raid - Understanding logical volumes/metadevices, Configure and troubleshoot Solaris Volume Manager using commands and files.
- Using the Solaris Management Console - Solaris GUI for Administrators.
- Solaris Pseudo Filesystems - Manage swap configuration, manage crash dumps and core files.
- NFS (Network File System) - NFS principles, client set up, server set up.
- Automounter - Automount concepts and set up using autofs maps.
- Utilizing Role-Based Access Control - Understand the concept, RBAC files, Set up RBAC, Manage RBAC.
- Describe naming services - Naming services concept, nsswitch configuration file, Configure a Ldap client, Configure DNS client.
- Flash Installation - Create and use a flash archive.
- NIS (Network Information Service) concepts and configuration - NIS concepts, commands, files, set up NIS master, Set up NIS slave, Set up NIS client.
- Jumpstart Automated Installation - Jumpstart-design, define, implement and troubleshoot.
