MCITP Server Administrator
Overview
The MCITP Server Administrator qualification validates your ability to handle day-to-day management of the server operating system, file structure, and directory services; handle software distribution and updates; monitor servers; provide tier-2 troubleshooting support; support engineering and change-management projects; build and configure servers; implement auditing policy; perform scheduled vulnerability-assessment scans; and monitor logs for firewalls and intrusion-detection systems.
This certification encompasses the Server 2008 operating system as well as a more thorough understanding of networking services like DNS, DHCP, Web servers and more. More Microsoft specific services like Active Directory and Group Policies are covered, including use of utilities and management tools to ensure all-round management and understanding of a Windows network.
Achieving the MCITP Server Administrator
There are many different paths to attaining your MCITP Server Administrator certification. We offer two different paths for you choose from depending on experience and prior qualifications.
Path 1: From Scratch
For the candidate with no prior Microsoft qualifications we offer a ground up approach to achieving your MCITP Server Administrator qualification. this requires the student to first sit two MCTS modules. These two courses teach students the basics of managing a Windows Server 2008 network infrastructure as well as managing Active Directory.
70-640 TS: Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory
70-642 TS: Configuring Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure
Once these courses have been completed the student can sit on the assoctiated PRO course.
70-646 PRO: Windows Server 2008 Server Administrator
Upon completion of all three exams the student will have attained the qualification.
Path 2: Upgrading an Exisiting MCSA 2003
For any candidate with an exisiting MCSA 2003 an upgrade path is available to take you to MCITP Server Administrator. It requires two exams covered in a single weeks course.
Windows Server 2008 Upgrade Week for MCSA/MCSE 2003
Upon completing this course you will need to take the following exams.
70-648 TS: Upgrading Your MCSA on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008
70-646 PRO: Windows Server 2008 Server Administrator
Once both exams have been taken the student will have attained the qualification. If after the upgrade week the student does not feel confident in taking both exams we highly reccomend sitting the PRO course week seperately.
